Buyer Beware: My Personal Experience with Brinks Home Security and Why You Should Avoid Them at All Costs
This article is based on my personal experience, and I urge you to do your own research before making any decisions. I first signed up with Brinks Home Security in 2021. At the outset, I made it crystal clear to the salespeople that I wanted to purchase the equipment outright and avoid being trapped in a long-term contract. Unfortunately, they slyly slipped in a 48-month term. Fast forward 3.5 years, when I moved from South Carolina back to Colorado, Brinks wouldn't let me cancel the contract. They couldn't even provide me with a contract until recently via DocuSign. I guess, if I signed it, then I signed it, but buyer beware: Brinks is a bit scammy and an untrustworthy business. Thank goodness there are alternatives.
I'm not talking about ADT; they are almost just as bad as Brinks. In fact, they play by the same playbook. At least when we moved, ADT was kind enough to let us out of our contracts. Brinks, on the other hand, displayed nothing but despicable human customer service. I even emailed William Niles, the Chief Executive Officer for Brinks Home Security, and Veronica Moturi, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience. No response. Let me tell you, there was zero customer service. If you're considering a home security system, avoid Brinks at all costs. Trust me, it’s a friggin' nightmare.
I am not alone when it comes to Brinks complaints. There's a dedicated Brinks Complaint Facebook Page, a plethora of Brinks Complaint Reddit threads, a crazy amount of complaints on PissedCustomer.com, a 1.3 rating on ConsumerAffairs, and more. Now that we know Brinks and their leadership team pretty much sucks (in my opinion), let's look at some alternatives.
SimpliSafe: The Best Alternative, Hands Down
When it comes to home security, SimpliSafe is the best alternative, 100%. With SimpliSafe, you buy the equipment and pay for the service. The app is intuitive and not the dinosaur technology like Brinks. It’s easy to use, offers great customer service, and is fantastic to deal with. You can buy your SimpliSafe equipment on Amazon, set it up yourself (it's super easy and wireless, no need for a tech to come out), and you're in business.
One of the major perks of SimpliSafe is its flexibility. Unlike Brinks, SimpliSafe does not lock you into long-term contracts. You can customize your security system to fit your needs and budget, and if you decide to move, you can easily take your system with you without any hassle. Customers rave about the ease of installation and the peace of mind that comes with knowing their homes are secure. Testimonials often highlight the excellent customer service and the user-friendly nature of the SimpliSafe app.
Blink: Another Great Home Security System
Another great option for home security is Blink. Like SimpliSafe, Blink is super easy to install and allows you to keep an eye on everything. You can browse Blink systems online on Amazon as well. One of the key benefits of Blink is its affordability. The equipment is reasonably priced, and there are no monthly fees unless you choose to subscribe to their cloud storage plan.
Blink's cameras are wireless and battery-powered, making them easy to place anywhere around your home. The Blink app provides real-time video feeds, motion alerts, and two-way audio, allowing you to monitor your home from anywhere. Many users appreciate the simplicity of Blink’s setup and the reliability of its security features.
Conclusion: Avoid Brinks Home Security at All Costs
I cannot stress enough the importance of avoiding Brinks Home Security. My experience with their underhanded contract practices, despicable customer service, and overall untrustworthiness has been a nightmare. I am not alone in this sentiment, as evidenced by the numerous complaints across various platforms and social media.
If you are in the market for a home security system, I highly recommend looking into SimpliSafe or Blink. Both offer reliable, user-friendly options without the hassle and deceit associated with Brinks. It’s time to cut the cord on outdated, dinosaur-like home security systems and embrace the simplicity and efficiency of modern alternatives like SimpliSafe and Blink.
Remember the names I’ve mentioned: William Niles and Veronica Moturi. They are part of the leadership team at Brinks that, in my opinion, contributes to the company’s poor customer service and deceptive practices. Trust me, you don’t want to go through what I’ve experienced.
Choose a better solution for your home security needs and steer clear of Brinks Home Security.
But, before that - file a BBB Complaint and an FTC Complaint. Otherwise, companies like Brinks will continue to get away with theft.
