Driving back from a video shoot, I was traveling from Hope, Idaho toward Sandpoint, Idaho when this scene came into view. I had to pull the car over and snap a shot. The picture was taken with an iPhone 13 Pro Max, because I was parked slightly illegally and didn’t have time to take out my Canon. I wanted the light coming down centered, but because I was standing basically on the edge of a cliff, I couldn’t go more left and take the tree on the left out of it, and I felt it was part of the story of this photograph. Back home I did have to adjust the picture to level, then I played around with a Black and White version, and added in some color. I LOVE how the light comes through the clouds which the B&W version really emphasizes. The water had small waves which gave it a texture that made some people think it was snow. To me that is a smooth lake (Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho). It’s one of the deepest lakes in the USA. I think the B&W is my favorite because it brings out the mountains in the background, the Selkirk mountains which are my favorite!
